WHAT IS A SET?

In bodybuilding terms, a "set" refers to how many times you perform one exercise. Some exercises, such as those for smaller muscle groups, will require that you do longer sets because smaller muscles get tired more slowly than larger ones do. Beginners should start at around 3 sets for every body part. Start with a light weight and build your way up to your maximum weight.

For example, let's say that you are training your chest muscles. You would take a small weight, of around 20 lbs, and do a certain number of repetitions. After you complete this first set, you would increase the weight by about 5 lbs, grabbing a 25 lb weight and doing your second set. And for your last set you would take a 30-lb. weight and complete that set. There you have it; you just did 3 sets.
