FOOL'S MATE
Always be on the lookout for a series of four moves in which you can be mated. They involve attacking the king's bishop's two square, usually with the queen. She, in turn, is protected by a knight or bishop. The most common type of fool's mate starts with getting the king's pawn out onto the center, then bringing the king's bishop to the queen's bishop's four square. Follow it up with a queen move to king's bishop's three or king's rook's five, and mate is one move away. It's also a good mate to try on your weaker opponents, who will be amazed that you could mate them in only four moves.
