DON'T STORE DIRTY TOOLS OVER WINTER
If you leave dirt on your tools over the winter, they may be rusty by spring. Tool cleaning isn't a fun job, but if you split it in half, it will seem easier. Tackle the long-handled tools first. Remove the dirt and apply a thin coat of just about any kind of oil. Don't forget mower blades and tiller tines (or the accumulated dried grass on your weed-eater and lawn mower, for that matter). Gather up your small tools and garden tote and take them in the house to be cleaned at your leisure. Sharpening can wait until spring.
