YO LA TENGO -- AND THEN NOTHING TURNED ITSELF ...
Yo La Tengo's latest release, their 11th, is quieter and more introspective than its predecessors. The husband-and-wife team of Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley (with bandmate James McNew) have produced a lush, airy, and sonically beautiful record. The sound is lithe and spacious, with hints of jazz and space-rock. The lyrics are tinged with melancholy and humor, just like real life. Yo La Tengo has made some of the most intelligent pop records for grown-ups in the past few years. This latest release upholds that trajectory.
